3D Anatomy Animation Series
A world first in comprehensive prostate cancer education
Prostate cancer has traditionally been a bewildering disease for many patients, with most people not knowing where the prostate is or what it does, until now. In a world first, Australian Prostate Cancer Research has produced an end-to-end educational DVD taking the viewer on a 3 dimensional animated guided tour of the human anatomy, in relation to prostate cancer.

The series explains the full prostate cancer journey to patients helping them to understand how prostate cancer behaves, treatment options available and the side effects associated with treatment. This tool can be used by clinicians to explain the full prostate cancer journey to patients helping them to understand prostate cancer.
The series is based on current prostate cancer anatomy research conducted by Australian Prostate Cancer Research.

Online clinical support & research portal - www.prostateonline.org.au
The development of an accessible support program for people touched by prostate cancer.
This national platform will provide men with prostate cancer access to the latest research validated information on all aspects of prostate cancer and online clinical support.
In addition to empowering its users with information, this program will act as a valuable research tool to progress prostate cancer research, collecting for the first time: a full set of patient-reported-outcomes, including mental, physical, financial and social impacts. Users will not only receive valuable personalised support but contribute their data and results to further inform research.
The Online Prostate Cancer Clinical Support Service aims to:
- Engage patients in early intervention and self-management strategies.
- Provide specialist online clinical consultations for men living in regional and rural Australia, improving the equity of care.
- Increase the quality of life of men dealing with prostate cancer, including incontinence, mental health intervention and sexual dysfunction.
The overall objective of the Online Prostate Cancer Clinical Support Service is to achieve systematic improvements through enduring positive impact in the areas of health care delivery to the aged and regional and rural based Australian men and their families dealing with prostate cancer.
A Technical Advisory Committee has been formed to scope and deliver the project. Commencement of the website build is scheduled for October 2012.

Androgen Deprivation Therapy ‘adt App’
Australian Prostate Cancer Research, in association with Urologist Dr Jim Duthie launched a smart phone App as part of a research program into whether App technologies can improve the uptake and management of men undergoing hormone treatments.
The drug regimes for men who have PSA recurrence can be strict. Dr Duthie believes a management system on smart phone for those who have one could assist in delivering more accurate dosage and timeliness of treatment.
The adt App is available in iTunes as a free download

Specialist Tumour Tissue collection for research - The Carlo Vaccari Scholarship:
Targeted dissection analyses and preservation of prostate cancer tissues
This project aims to collect, prepare and preliminarily analyse post-operative prostatic tissue and match to patients’ clinical data, capturing all relevant information for the purpose of providing a high quality resource for use by medical scientists in the quest to better understand and treat men with prostate cancer
Michael Kerger was the recipient of this 3-year scholarship to focus solely on the collection of high grade fresh tissue for use by researchers in the prostate field.

Partners of men with prostate cancer Intervention Program
In association with Royal Melbourne Hospital and Swinburne University and with funding support from beyondblue, Dr Addie Wootten is working with Australian Prostate Cancer Research to develop an innovative psychological support program for partners of men with prostate cancer.
The program will be conducted across two phases; market research and program development and pilot testing. The market research phase will ascertain the current support needs of partners of men with prostate cancer and the gaps in current service provision via structured focus group research. The data collected in this phase of the research will be used to develop an online psychological support intervention specifically targeting the identified areas of need. The second phase of this research will involve pilot testing of the developed program and user feedback.
